Grotto (2021) - ★★ i think putting it in 3d space was a mistake but i also think if it was in a VN format i wouldn’t have picked it up but also i don’t think this is a game for me so maybe the right signalling would have been appropriate.
first i was frustrated with the very slow daily drip of narrative and what looked like the streched-thin justification of my choices to meet predetermined plot points, then i got frustrated with the voiceover hitting me with the “ACTUALLY, this story is about” for the 4th time. then i thought about how many experiments i would need to do in order to collect all the star signs and figured if i cared about the story that much i would read the script raw.
